The Short Mat Bowls group meet on Wednesday evenings in Crendon Hall from 7.15 to 9.15 pm We started just over a year ago when we purchased a second-hand mat from Wendover Bowls club and they gave us a couple of slip mats and the white jack ball, and, with one or two of the group owning their own ‘woods’ we were able to get started. Some members were experienced and some of us were absolute beginners but we soon got the hang of things (well more or less) and the evenings are always fun. We have acquired more sets of woods so if you fancy a game of short mat bowls, or would like to learn, why not join us, all you need to bring with you is a pair of flat shoes. You’ll be sure of a warm welcome and we have a break halfway through the evening for tea, coffee and biscuits, so it’s not too tiring. On the other hand you could look on it as good exercise with the slight bending to pick up the woods and the gentle swing of the arm on the delivery.
